Get out your old iPod and put on your playlist to cry on. I have some sad news for you. After more than 15 years of covering all things Apple, it is with great regret that I announce that we will no longer be publishing new content on iMore.
I want to start by thanking you all for your support over the many years and incarnations of the site. Whether you were an early adopter back in the days of PhoneDifferent, have joined The iPhone Blog, or have recently started reading to find out what the heck the Apple Vision Pro is, it has been a privilege to serve you a daily slice of Apple pie.
Coming on the heels of the launch of the first iPhone in 2008 – a device that changed the game not just for Apple but for the world at large – it’s rather fitting that we end the post in 2024 on the cusp of the launch of a new, industry-changing Apple technology: Apple Intelligence. Just as Apple wasn’t the first company to make a smartphone, it’s also not the first to test the waters of AI – but just as the iPhone took the world by storm, so too can Apple Intelligence transform the way we interact with technology in the years to come.
It’s a stark reminder that the world of technology never stands still – the term “artificial intelligence” was the stuff of science fiction in the early days of the iPhone. The publishing world is constantly evolving, too, as are the forms of tech journalism that seek to shed light on the industry. iMore leaves the stage at a crucial crossroads for online publishing, where the battle for readers’ time and attention is more demanding than ever, and the aforementioned advances in AI and search discovery methods further complicate the playing field. It’s been a pleasure to serve such a passionate readership over the years, but it’s time to pass the baton to new writers, new sites, and new formats.
I’d like to take this moment to thank all members of the iMore community, both past and present, for their support and passion for what we’ve created over the years. A huge thank you to iMore’s previous leaders Lory Gil, Serenity Caldwell, and Joe Keller, and of course the inimitable Rene Ritchie, who got this thing off the ground all those years ago. I hope they all feel proud.
I’d like to especially thank the last team at iMore who I worked most closely with and who it was an honour to lead over the last few years: Stephen, Tammy, John-Anthony, Daryl and James, as well as our many regular contributors. Thank you for putting a smile on my face every day. I can’t wait to see what you do next.
iMore will remain online so that readers can continue to access archive articles and the forum at https://forums.imore.com/ will remain up until November 1st to serve our community. Our sister sites TechRadar.com and TomsGuide.com will also continue to publish the latest news, reviews and more from the world of Apple-based computing, while our friends at WindowsCentral.com and AndroidCentral.com are privileged to continue bringing you class-leading news, reviews and features from the other side of the technology divide, keeping you up to date with all the latest from Microsoft and Google.
Now it’s time to close those watch rings, put a gag on Siri, and drink up a storm. The iBeer app One last time. Thank you for allowing us to think differently all these years. See you in the big iCloud backup in the sky.
