Updates added to the end of the article.
PlayStation Network is experiencing a global outage, with subscribers confirming they can no longer play online games or access the company’s website.
When trying to access PSN, users may receive errors stating: “Connection to server timed out” or “An error has occurred.”
The PlayStation Network status page has confirmed the outage, stating that it affects all services, including account management, gaming and social media, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store and PlayStation Direct.
“You may be having difficulty launching games, applications, or network functions. We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience,” the gaming and social service’s status message reads.
The status page says the outage began at approximately 8:41 pm ET and that they are working to restore service.
Earlier today, Sony fixed a bug that caused ads, game promotions, and trailers to appear where custom game art would normally be displayed when selecting a game.
This outage is not believed to be related to this previous issue.
Update 9/30/24: Sony updated the PlayStation Network status page to indicate that the PlayStation Direct issues have been resolved.
However, all other PlayStation Network services remain down and the backend servers are still returning “HTTP 500 Internal Server Error” messages. This type of error is commonly displayed when a server is overloaded.
This is a developing story.
