OpenAI acquires Rockset | Rockset

I am pleased to announce that OpenAI has completed the acquisition of Rockset. We are thrilled to join the OpenAI team and bring our technology and expertise to develop safe and beneficial artificial intelligence.

From the beginning, our vision at Rockset was to radically transform the way data-driven applications were built. We built our search and analytics database by taking full advantage of the cloud to remove the complexity inherent in the data infrastructure required for these applications.

Six years later, rapid advances in LLMs are enabling a Cambrian explosion and numerous innovations across industries, driving a preponderance of AI applications. While the nature of these applications has changed, the underlying infrastructure challenges have not. Advanced recovery infrastructure like Rockset will make AI applications more powerful and useful. With this acquisition, what we have developed over the years will help make AI accessible to everyone in a safe and beneficial way.

Our future

Rockset will become part of OpenAI and will be the source of the recovery infrastructure that underpins OpenAI’s suite of products. We will help OpenAI solve the complex database problems facing large-scale AI applications.

Existing Rockset customers will not experience any immediate changes. We will be transitioning existing customers to Rockset gradually and are committed to ensuring a smooth process.

Brad Lightcap, COO of OpenAI, explains how Rockset will fit into OpenAI: “Rockset’s infrastructure enables enterprises to transform their data into actionable intelligence. We are excited to deliver these benefits to our customers by integrating the Rockset foundation into OpenAI’s products.”

What’s next?

I am deeply grateful to our customers, partners, investors, and colleagues who have been instrumental in Rockset’s journey. Their support and faith in us have been the foundation of our success. We look forward to continuing what we have started at Rockset and supporting OpenAI’s mission of creating safe and beneficial AI.
