Apple last updated the Apple TV in October 2022, featuring a new smaller design, USB-C on the Siri remote, and a jump from the A12 chip to the A15 chip. As the two years approach, rumors arise about the next Apple TV model, although things look a little bleak.
Previous rumors
Initially we expected a Apple TV update this year, in the first half of the year. Obviously, that didn’t happen. In a Bloomberg report a few weeks ago, journalist Mark Gurman stated the following:
While the company has been working on an update to the Apple TV set-top box since this year, no new model has come to fruition and the device’s stable inventory suggests there is no new version on the immediate horizon.
So, despite the previous expectation of a release this year, it seems that a new Apple TV It is not immediately around the corner. Apple is apparently happy with the current model and continues to make and restock them, something they wouldn’t normally do if something was about to be updated.
Why a new Apple TV?
Many people wonder if Apple even needs to update the AppleTV. Sure, the A15 chip may be enough for general TV needs, but there are other reasons why Apple would want to upgrade the Apple TV anyway:
- Lower cost, making the TV Box accessible to more customers
- Apple Intelligence
- Gaming
Apple lowered the initial price of the Apple TV 4K from $179 to $129 with the upgrade in 2022. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believe that he Apple TV The box should be even cheaper with the next update, even below $100:
The sub-$100 price point should be the sweet spot for the Apple TV, so I expect the next generation to be more affordable.
Apple could also implement Apple Intelligence within the next generation AppleTVgiving us an A18 chip. While the new Siri may not be the most useful in the Apple TVI could see Apple allowing the paired HomePods to access the chipset of the AppleTVallowing existing HomePods to take advantage of the new Siri without requiring an expensive hardware upgrade.
Last but not least, the games. Apple has been working with many game developers to bring more high-end games to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. However, Apple TV has been left out of that equation. Apple could potentially make a powerful Apple TV That could handle many high-end games, including those with ray tracing, although it’s unclear if Apple wants to pursue that strategy.
